Titanium Omega Seamaster 007 James Bond Special Edition Review

Ever since the 1995 film “007 Goldeneye” an Omega watch has been seen on the James Bond character’s wrist. We’ve covered numerous James Bond watches in our humble watch blog over the years.

This Special Edition 007 Titanium Watch is made of a lightweight material yet, it is not just “some watch” that should be taken lightly.  James Bond Seamaster watches have grown to become quite extraordinary timepieces over the last 25 years.

The 42mm titanium case and lugs have a brushed finish as do the titanium crown and aluminum bezel. The ten o’clock position of the case has a helium escape valve used by divers who use a diving bell.

The dial is covered by a domed sapphire crystal and features applied hour markers that are filled with a vintage-toned luminescent material for great visibility in low light conditions.

A vintage colored second track is printed around the perimeter of the dial and skeletonized hands are filled with luminous materials.

There are two models in this series. Both are special edition watches. The one on a titanium mesh bracelet has the reference number 210.90.42.20.01.001.

The other model which comes on a striped fabric NATO strap has the reference number 210.92.42.20.01.001.

You will find special engravings and inscriptions on the case back which include the 007 emblems with the gun as well as the upwards pointing arrow that can also be found at the 6 o’clock position on the matte tropical brown aluminum dial. One of the beautiful things about this case back is that it has the NAIAD locking system which aligns the case back and its engravings with the direction of the watch.

While both watches have a solid case back which conceals the movement, the caliber within the case is beautiful to behold and has the automatic winding rotor & visible bridges decorated with a special arabesque wave design finishing.

Both these models are powered by the 35-jewel in-house Omega Co-Axial caliber 8806 which has an oscillation rate of 25,200 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. It has the Co-Axial escapement and the Si14 silicon balance spring.

Several other features make this mechanical self-winding movement unique. The Omega 8806 movement is certified by two different 3rd party labs in Switzerland. It has both a COSC certified chronometer designation and a METAS certified Master chronometer pedigree.

The latter certification is conducted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology once the caliber has already met COSC specs and is arguably one of the most robust movements that one can ask for. All this within a very attainable price range too.

The movement is tested by METAS for many things from its resistance of electromagnetic waves up to 15,00 gauss and expected and advertised water resistance. It is also tested in 6 different positions to ensure optimal accuracy and precision of 0/+5 seconds per day in real-life conditions.

More importantly, this watch offers the same dependability and accuracy that James Bond would need to rely on in his day to day top-secret operations.
